RoadClothing, helmets, gloves, protectors

Try on rather than order: Honda motorcycle clothing and helmets for the road

Protective clothing only protects you properly if it fits. That is why Honda Motorrad Zürich, official Honda Dream Dealer, stocks jackets, trousers, helmets, gloves and protectors in a way that lets you try everything on site. Here you can read what Honda motorcycle clothing for the road includes and what to look out for when choosing it.

Jackets, trousers, suits and boots for the road

Jackets come in leather or textile; CE-certified protectors sit in the shoulders and elbows, while a pocket takes a back protector. Trousers are available as touring, sport or jeans models, with protectors at the hips and knees; some can be zipped directly to the jacket.

If you prefer to ride in one piece, choose a one- or two-piece suit in leather or textile. Gloves come short or long, for warm as well as cold days; boots are available for touring, sport and adventure, plus trainers and urban boots for the city. Rainwear, kidney belts, back protectors and airbag vests – Alpinestars’ Tech-Air, for example – complete the range.

On the shop floor you will find Alpinestars and Kenny, for helmets also Arai, plus an in-house line under the name Honda Dream Dealer Zürich. Other manufacturers are ordered by the dealer on request.

Motorcycle helmet: measuring head circumference and checking the fit

A motorcycle helmet that is too big slips; one that is too small starts to press after a short while. In the shop, your head circumference is therefore measured first, about one centimetre above the eyebrows, and then the team checks how the helmet sits. Because the fit differs from one manufacturer to another, trying a helmet on beats any size chart.

Anyone riding a motorcycle in Switzerland is required to wear a helmet. Check inside the helmet that it carries the label of the current ECE test standard. After a fall or a hard impact, you need a new helmet, even if there is no visible damage; otherwise, follow the manufacturer’s recommendation.

For motocross and enduro, the MX-Academy’s motocross shop has the rest of the motocross equipment, from motocross goggles to protective jackets and knee guards, new as well as second-hand.

Protectors, protection levels and advice by appointment

Protectors should be CE-certified. There are two levels: Level 1 covers basic protection, while Level 2 is the highest level. By law, only the helmet is compulsory here, yet Honda Motorrad Zürich strongly recommends full protective gear, right down to gloves and boots.

Women riders will find clothing in dedicated women’s cuts, and there is suitable gear for children too, who can start kids motocross at 4. For detailed advice on Honda motorcycle clothing, it pays to book a slot first, since the shop is at full capacity on busy days; the slot is binding once confirmed.

Renting gear for a test ride, tour or course

At Honda Motorrad Zürich, you can rent a complete set of helmet, jacket, trousers and gloves or individual items, all from Alpinestars. The daily rate drops from the second day of rental, and a weekly flat rate applies for up to seven days.

Sizes range from XS to XXL for helmets, from XS to 3XL for jackets and trousers and from S to 3XL for gloves. Whether you opt for motorcycle rental, ride your own bike or attend a course, the rental gear can be combined with any of these.

Hygiene is the reason for one rule that covers every helmet rental, short test rides included: balaclava mandatory – bring your own or CHF 25.–. A deposit is charged for the rental gear, and a separate one for an additional rental motorcycle. You reserve via the online form, and the reservation is binding once confirmed; collection and return take place in Zurich.

Frequently asked questions

Which type of helmet suits my riding style?

For touring, motorway riding and sporty riding, a full-face helmet offers the most complete protection, as it encloses the whole face including the chin. With a flip-up helmet, you swing the chin bar upwards when you stop. The open-face helmet is open and light, a good choice for scooters and retro motorcycles. Off-road riding calls for a motocross helmet with peak, worn with motocross goggles.

What happens if something I have bought does not fit?

Then Honda Motorrad Zürich exchanges it directly in the shop, with no returns form and no waiting time. If you buy Honda motorcycle clothing on site, you therefore have nothing to send back and nothing to wait for.

Is rental gear also available in women’s sizes?

Yes, on request. Ideally, mention the sizes you need when you make your reservation via the online form. When you buy, the team in the shop pays particular attention to women’s sizes.

Can I finance the clothing together with the motorcycle?

Yes. If you buy a motorcycle from Honda Motorrad Zürich and finance it through motorcycle leasing, your motorcycle clothing can be included in the leasing contract. You clarify the details directly with the dealer.
