Offroad base of the MX-Academy
The MX-Academy’s Honda Motoshop: off-road centre in Schlatt TG
The Honda Motoshop belongs to the MX-Academy and is an official Honda outlet specialising in off-road for German-speaking Switzerland and Zurich. Here families, newcomers and racers find out which Honda suits which age, how you can try before buying and who takes care of service and tuning afterwards.
Off-road specialist with 30 years of experience
Behind the shop stands the MX-Academy with 30 years of off-road experience. Honda motorcycles have been in use at its off-road school for a decade, from the small kids’ models up to the CRF250. The team therefore knows these models from everyday course work.
The Honda Motoshop is located at Hauptstrasse 8, 8252 Schlatt TG. Motocross products for children, teenagers and adults are available in the shop and online.
From age 4 to racing: the Honda size ladder
A motocross bike has to suit the rider’s height and ability. The Honda off-road models therefore form a ladder that your child climbs step by step. It starts with the CRF50F, which fits children from around 4 years: the centrifugal clutch means no clutch lever is needed, while an adjustable throttle limiter keeps speed in check.
Between 8 and 11 years, the CRF110F is the right size, likewise without a clutch lever and with an electric starter. From around 10 years, the CRF125F comes into play with a clutch lever and four-speed gearbox, and as a Big Wheel also with larger wheels. The liquid-cooled CRF150R with its five-speed gearbox is designed for competition and is the next step after the CRF125F in youth motocross.
Above them come the motocross models CRF250R and CRF450R, both also available as HRC Works Edition. The 250 is regarded as the entry into the large displacements, while the 450 is aimed at experienced riders. If you prefer enduro, choose the CRF250RX or the CRF450RX: both build on the motocross versions and add a side stand and hand guards, among other features.
All these models are off-road and competition motorcycles without road registration. Their place is on motocross tracks, on closed-off terrain or wherever riding is permitted. The model overview on this page presents each step, and the kids’ dirt bike comparison shows the four models up to the CRF150R side by side.

Try before you buy: rental bikes on the motocross course
Whether seat height and power are right is easiest to tell while riding. Every MX-Academy motocross course offers the CRF50, CRF110, CRF125 and CRF250 for hire. That way you or your child can see before buying which step of the ladder is right at the moment.
Riding takes place on closed-off terrain, no driving licence is needed, and children are welcome from the age of 4. In kids motocross, exactly the small CRF50F, CRF110F and CRF125F models are used. Booking a taster course or complete package means you get both the rental bike and the protective gear; registration is online via the calendar of events.
Buying, used motorcycles and leasing via Honda Motorrad Zürich
For advice and for buying a vehicle, the partner to turn to is Honda Motorrad Zürich, the official Honda Dream Dealer. It keeps all Honda models in stock, and the Motoshop’s vehicles also come from there. Whether you want to buy a motocross bike or buy an enduro bike: new models are available from stock, along with a constantly changing selection of used motorcycles and motorcycle leasing.
With a second-hand motocross bike, it pays to take a close look at how well it has been cared for and at its service history, as well as at the chain, air filter and suspension.
After buying: service, tuning and motocross equipment
The Motoshop carries out repairs and servicing and tunes suspension and engines. The expertise for this also comes from racing: the MX-Academy looks after and coaches the official Swiss Honda MX-Academy Motocross Team, organises it and provides the racing equipment. If you race on a Honda and can offer advertising space, you can also request tailor-made sponsorship.
The motocross equipment in the motocross shop of the MX-Academy includes helmets, protective jackets, knee guards, motocross goggles and accessories, new or second-hand and in various price ranges. For children who grow quickly, second-hand gear is worthwhile; the helmet, however, must fit well.

How old does a child have to be to start motocross?
The MX-Academy accepts children on its courses from 4 years of age. The Honda CRF50F is designed for this age: centrifugal clutch without a clutch lever, 10-inch wheels and an adjustable throttle limiter. When it is time to move on to the CRF110F depends on your child’s size and ability.
Can I test-ride a Honda motocross bike before buying?
Yes, on a course: on every motocross course, the MX-Academy has the CRF50, CRF110, CRF125 and CRF250 for hire, and no driving licence is needed. The taster course already comes with the rental bike and protective gear.
Are there used Honda motocross bikes?
Yes. The stock of used Honda motocross bikes changes constantly and, like the new vehicles, comes from Honda Motorrad Zürich. So it is worth asking about the latest arrivals. The motocross shop also offers second-hand helmets, protective jackets and knee guards.
Who services my CRF?
Repairs, servicing and suspension and engine tuning are handled by the Honda Motoshop in Schlatt TG itself. The know-how for this also comes from working with the MX-Academy racing team. Honda road motorcycles, on the other hand, belong in the workshop at Honda Motorrad Zürich.
