Enduro and motocross: two ways of riding off-road
Motocross takes place on a closed circuit: short, intense motos with jumps, berms and whoops. In enduro, the routes are longer and more varied, with rocks, roots, mud and steep sections, often including timed special tests.
That is why different things count in enduro: enough fuel for long laps, protection for your hands in tight sections and tyres that find grip on changing surfaces.
How the CRF250RX is equipped compared with the CRF250R
Up front there is a 21-inch wheel and at the rear a 19-inch wheel, both fitted with Dunlop AT81 tyres. Its tank holds 8 l, compared with 6.3 l on the CRF250R, so you need to refuel less often.
The equipment includes hand guards and an aluminium side stand. At 104 kg, the RX is slightly heavier than the CRF250R at 102 kg. The technical basis remains the motocross version with the 249 cc DOHC engine.
Where you may ride the CRF250RX
The CRF250RX is a competition motorcycle without road registration. It is ridden at enduro competitions, on motocross tracks, on closed-off terrain and wherever riding is expressly permitted.
Before every trip off-road, check whether riding is allowed there and obtain permission from the landowner or organiser. The RX travels to the venue on a trailer or in a van.
CRF250RX or CRF450RX: which enduro suits you?
The 250 is more manageable off-road and easier to guide through tight, technical sections. The CRF450RX demands more strength and experience and is aimed at practised enduro riders.
Basics such as riding standing up, controlled braking and looking ahead can be practised in a targeted way on a motocross course at the MX-Academy, where riding takes place on closed-off terrain. The CRF50, CRF110, CRF125 and CRF250 can be rented on every course.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the CRF250RX need a larger tank?
Enduro laps are considerably longer than a motocross moto. With 8 l instead of the 6.3 l on the CRF250R, you refuel less often and can ride longer sections off-road without having to return to the paddock.
Can I also ride the CRF250RX on a motocross track?
Yes, motocross tracks are among the places where it may be ridden. For pure circuit training, however, the CRF250R is more single-mindedly designed, while the RX is adapted for enduro off-road.
What protective gear do I need for enduro?
Enduro calls for the same basic gear as motocross: helmet, goggles, body armour jacket and knee guards, plus boots and gloves. The MX-Academy’s motocross shop stocks helmets, goggles, armour jackets and knee guards as motocross equipment, both new and used.
Where can I get advice on the Enduro bike Honda CRF250RX?
